Spinach Daal

Style: Andhra
Ingredients
Ingredients to pressure cook
Spinach (cut into big pieces) - 3 cups
Toor daal - 1 cup
Tomato (1/2 inch cubes) - 1
Onion (1/2 inch cubes) - 1
Green chilies - 7-10 nos
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Tamarind paste - 1/2 tsp
Water - 3 cups


* You can replace Spinach with 1/3 cup of Methi leaves or 1 raw mango cut into cubes or 4 tomatoes cut into cubes


Ingredients for tadka
Oil - 1 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Minced garlic - 1 tsp
Chana daal - 1 tsp
Urad daal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 6-10 leaves
Dried red chili - 4-5 nos


Preparation method

  • Pressure cook all of the ingredients for pressure cooking for 3 whistles
  • Add 1 tsp of salt mash the contents in the cooker with a masher
  • In a small pan heat oil and fry the ingredients for tadka
  • Add the tadka to the daal and mix
