Ingredients
Urad daal - 1 cup
Dlack pepper corns - 1 tsp (crushed)
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp (crushed)
Green chilies - 3 (chopped)
Ginger - 1/4 inch (chopped and smashed)
Salt
Oil
Preparation Method
- Soak whole black gram daal in water for 2 hours (up to 8 hours)
- Drain water and grind daal to a paste. Do not add water. This paste needs to be thick
- Add salt, crushed cumin seeds, pepper corns and ginger. Mix
- Heat oil for deep frying in a heavy bottomed vessel and heat until hot
- Make a lemon sized ball of batter and flatten it into a vada on a greased sheet/plastic sheet/banana leaf. Make a hole in the centre
- Fry both sides on medium flame until golden brown
