Beef Curry

Oil - 1/4 cup
Cinnamon – 1 inch piece
Cloves – 3-4
Black cardamom - 1 or 2
Bay leaves - 1 or 2

Onion – 1 big thinly sliced (about 2 cups)

Ginger garlic paste - 2 tsp
Green chili - 4-5 slit
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tbsp
Chili powder - 1 tsp
Mint leaves - 2 tbsp (finely chopped)Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup (finely chopped)
Tomato - 2 (1 cup after diced)
Garam Masala – 1 tsp
Curry leaves

Marinade

Beef – 2 pound, cut into small pieces
Small onions – 1 cup sliced
Chili powder – 2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Ginger – 1/2 tbsp 
coarsely grated
Garlic – 1/2 tbsp 
coarsely grated
Green chili - 3-5 coarsely grated
Coconut pieces/slices – 1/4 cup (optional)
Salt - 1 tsp

Masala powder

Fennel – 1 tsp
Cinnamon – 2 inch piece
Cloves – 8-10
Star anise – 2 (seeds removed)
Black cardamom - 1 or 2
Bay leaves - 1 or 2

Preparation method


  1. Fry the Ingredients for masala powder and grind them to a powder. Keep aside
  2. Mix the powdered spices, ingredients for marinade and beef. Marinated for 10-12 hours
  3. Pressure cook the marinated beef adding half 1/4 cup of water for about 8 whistles. After turning the cooker off allow pressure releases automatically
  4. Separate the beef from the gravy
  5. Heat oil in a pan and add cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves and black cardamom. Fry for a minute
  6. Add onions. Fry onions until they become cooked well and brown
  7. Add Ginger and garlic paste. Fry for 1-2 mins
  8. Add green chilies and saute for a minute or so
  9. Add turmeric, coriander and chili powder. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Do not allow to fry
  10. Add tomatoes and cook until mushy
  11. Add mint and coriander leaves and cook for 2-3 mins.
  12. Add gravy from booked beef. Cook for a couple of minutes.
  13. Add the cooked beef and Garam masala. Cook for a couple of minutes.
