Pepper Rasam

Ingredients
Tomatoes - 3 nos
Garlic - 3-4 pods (crushed)
Red chilies - 4 nos
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Hing - 1/4 tsp
Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Tamarind paste - 1/2 tsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (chopped)
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste


Preparation method

  • Boil 3 whole tomatoes in 2 cups of water until tomato can be easily mashed. Mash the tomatoes in the water
  • Add tamarind paste to the mashed tomatoes
  • Heat oil in a vessel. Fry garlic and red chilies in oil
  • Add curry leaves and fry for a few seconds
  • Add hing, cumin powder and coriander powder. Fry for a few seconds
  • Add mashed tomato-tamarind juice
  • Bring to boil and add pepper powder. Allow to boil for 3-4 mins
  • Add salt to taste
  • Turn off flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves
