Daal Chutney Podi (Kandi podi)

Ingredients

Toor daal - 1/2 cup
Chutney fried Channa Daal - 1/2 cup
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Seasame seeds - 1 tbsp (optional)
Dried red chilies - 4-5
Curry leaves - 1 sprigs
Garlic - 1/2 tsp (minced or thinly sliced)
Pepper - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida powder - 1/2 tsp

Preparation method

  • Roast toor daal in a pan with  garlic and curry leaves. toast in low heat
  • After a few minutes when the curry leaves and garlic are close to dry add additional ingredients including red chili, pepper corns, cumin seeds. Roast until curry leaves and garlic are dry
  • If using sesame seeds, add now and roast for 2-3 mins
  • Add chutney daal and asadoetida. Toast for a minute until warm
  • Allow to cool.
  • Add salt and grind to a fine powder.
  • Use a strainer to separate the fine powder. You can grind the rest again and strain again!
